The Village Nosh offers several types of these nostalgic sweet-filled braided yeasted breads. A babka is a delicious rich brioche bread that is filled and braided several times to create layers of a heavenly treat. Babka comes in two forms: a braided loaf or a braided knot.
CHOCOLATE BABKA is a traditional babka filled with Ghiardelli dark chocolate, organic sugar and organic cinnamon. We top the CHOCOLATE BABKA and CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT BABKA with a streusel made of butter, flour and confectionary sugar.
HAZELNUT CHOCOLATE BABKA is filled with an imported hazelnut chocolate spread from Greece that just melts in your mouth. We use the highest quality chocolate spread on the market.
CINNAMON BABKA is always referred to as the lesser of the two traditional babkas, with chocolate being preferred by Elaine and Jerry on the Seinfield TV show (see the link below). The filling is a golden organic sugar mixed with organic Saigon cinnamon. The topping is a simple syrup. This is a great morning treat with coffee.
The BAKLAVA BAKBA is our latest innovative creation made with pistachio nuts, rose water, orange zest, and honey. This babka has a topping of orange flower essence mixed in a simple syrup. It's perfect for an afternoon dessert or dinner party when you want to schmooze and impress your friends.
BABKA is available in two size loaves: Regular (serves 4-6) and Large (serves 7-10). For those who don't like to share, we make babka knots, which are half the size of a regular loaf.
Based on several requests, we also make a VEGAN Chocolate Hazelnut Babka. Please contact us as we don't keep vegan ingredients on hand and need to shop for these. Time from order request to completion may take a week or more.
I prefer eating a slice of babka for dessert or an afternoon snack. My husband prefers his chocolate babka slice toasted with chocolate ice cream melting into the babka. He prefers his Cinnamon Raisin Walnut babka slice for breakfast. An old school buddy from Long Island, Jerry Seinfeld, even had an entire episode on this amazing bread. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz4OWAFrWmY
